DANCE OF THE DEAD

This song was first performed at Danse Macabre's first ever gig at Blush, Stoke Newington in May 2008 and also appears on the band's EP The Golden Age of Ballooning. Together with I am the One, this song forms the traditional finale to a Haunted Honeymoon show. Lyrics are by Steph and music is by Taylor, based upon the main theme from Saint-Saens' symphonic poem 'Danse Macabre'. Ash and Taylor take lead vocals on alternative verses.

DANCE OF THE DEAD
(Music: Taylor; Lyrics: Steph)

How dare you ask me how I am?
After you teased like only you can?
You pushed me away and then you said,
"Sleeping with you is a dance with the dead."

You're stalking me, I am aware,
I see you here and everywhere,
Your cold demeanour fascinates,
I feel your passion, your love, your hate.

I can't escape you though I'm trying my best,
You follow me everywhere; north, south, east and west,
You're not my lover, you're a stalker, you're a pest,
Go away, stop bothering me, put this thing to rest.

I followed you to the end of time,
Your final hours they will be mine,
I came too late, you were fading fast,
Still I was spurned as you breathed your last...

My restless spirit tries to be brave,
You tend the flowers on my grave,
I've got my wish and now you've gone,
Dance of the dead is where I belong.

I want you back, you're mine to own,
I'll dig you up and take you home,
I want you with me in my bed,
Together, forever, a dance with the dead.

You won't lose me though you did try your best,
I followed you everywhere; north, south, east and west,
I can still be your lover; not a stalker, not a pest,
I'll be with you forever and side-by-side we'll rest.

You never lost me, you really were the best,
You stuck by me to the end, through this final test,
Now you're my lover, not a stalker, not a pest,
I'll be with you forever and side-by-side we'll rest.

Sleeping with you in the dance of the dead,
Sleeping with you in the dance of the dead.
