KILLER SQUIRRELS

Steph and Taylor had been toying with the idea of a comedy heavy metal band before Ash approached them with a view to forming Danse Macabre. Steph is a big fan of Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, who apparently wrote the classic The Number of the Beast following a nightmare. Killer Squirrels was written by Steph as a tribute to what Steve Harris may have come up with if he'd had nightmares about squirrels, instead! An early recording of this song featured a voice over by Random Dent, starting the song in the manner of Richard Burton's narration from Jeff Wayne's musical version of War of the Worlds. In live shows, this voice over has been shifted to the instrumental (as per the transcript below) and is now done by Ash, who takes lead vocals throughout. This song has since inspired Steph and Taylor's plan to create Killer Squirrels: The Opera...

KILLER SQUIRRELS
(Music / Lyrics: Steph)

See the grey ones in the yard,
There's more and more each day,
They're here to take control of us,
So heed the words I say.

Killer squirrels, giving me evils,
Fiendish fur-balls, bringers of pain,
Killer squirrels, outside my windows,
Here to take me on a night train, to hell.

There's a tapping at the windows,
They call, they call for me,
Bushy-tailed Beelzebubs,
They're demons can't you see?
In my head I hear their thoughts,
I'm going out my mind,
Planet of the killer squirrels,
Death to all mankind.

Killer squirrels, giving me evils,
Fiendish fur-balls, bringers of pain,
Killer squirrels, outside my windows,
Here to take me on a night train, to hell.

Look outside the window, can you see them everywhere,
Watching you, watching me.

(Spoken) "No one would have believed in the first years of the twenty-first century, that human affairs were being watched from our gardens and our parks. Few even considered the possibility of intelligent life on Earth. But in the trees above, minds immeasurably superior to ours, regarded the Earth with envious eyes; and slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us."

In the trees above, in the trees above.

I see them in my nightmares, they've come to suck my brains,
So beware, they're everywhere.

Killer squirrels, giving me evils,
I can hear them outside my room,
Killer squirrels, death and destruction,
Killer squirrels, prophets of doom.
Killer squirrels, giving me evils,
Killer squirrels, prophets of doom,
Here to take me on a night train, to hell.
