SLEEP

This is the oldest song in Haunted Honeymoon's repertoire, as Steph wrote it back in 1995 for a progressive rock band she was in at the time called Fletcher's Folly and a version appeared on their 1995 EP. The version on Danse Macabre's The Golden Age of Ballooning features Steph on both synthesizer and bass, Taylor on both violin and guitar, which led to problems when coming up with a workable version for live performances. In earlier Danse Macabre gigs Steph played rhythm guitar alongside Taylor's violin, while in later gigs Steph plays synthesizer throughout. The song was first performed by Danse Macabre in May 2008 at an acoustic gig at Blush, Stoke Newington, 2008 and by the full band at the Worcester Music Festival in August 2008. The version performed by Haunted Honeymoon is a different arrangement yet again; one which takes advantage of Rose's saxophone. Taylor and Ash both take lead vocals on this song.

SLEEP
(Music / Lyrics: Steph)

Echoes of the daylight still rest upon my eyes,
Weariness is mine, I am old before my time,
This world drains my spirit, I feel I am fading away,
The living shadows of my past stay with me through the day.

Tranquility is mine, a symptom of my sleep,
A respite from the trauma, a haven for the weak,
This life is for fighters, as a loser I should weep,
Life is for living so in solitude I sleep.

I wait for the dark to calm me,
I wait for the night to claim me,
I wait just to close my eyes and find deliverence,
Only in my slumber will my mind find time to rest.

The trials of my waking life were once so far away,
But now the stars are fading and its soon another day,
The window sees the dawn approaching, I feel ill at ease,
Daylight upon my sleep encroaching, let me rest in peace!

Waiting for the dark to calm me,
Waiting until none can halm me,
Waiting for the time when I can rest my weary bones,
Comatosed and comforted by sleep's near silent tones.
